We Carry You Still

Who are we?

We are a team of women personally touched by miscarriage—we have lost our own babies, we have been the grandmother, and we have been the friend. Our faith inspires us to help others on this difficult journey.

What do we believe?

We serve and walk with anyone who has experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss. We adhere to the apostolic traditions of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches.

Young Sounds of Arizona

“The first and oldest program of its kind in the United States”

“The Magic of Jazz, the Freshness of Youth”

Young Sounds of Arizona was founded in 1971 to provide further training, performing opportunities and artistic growth for young Valley musicians ages 14 to 19. Sponsored by the Professional Musicians of Arizona, Local 586 of the American Federation of Musicians, Young Sounds members are chosen by audition of middle-school and high school age students each year.

Beginning as one jazz band, Young Sounds has matured into two Big Bands and a Jazz Combo. Performances at schools, clinics, concert venues, conventions, jazz festivals, and recording sessions help increase musical competence and performance skills of Young Sounds members.

Membership in Young Sounds often precedes a continuance of academic music education at the college level and/or a professional musical career. The program can provide a bridge between playing music on a sometimes basis and making music a full-time job.

In addition to musical training and performing, Young Sounds members gain the advantage of mentoring from the professional musicians who lead them and from other members of Professional Musicians of Arizona, Local 586, A.F.M.

The Artists

Andrew Gross; Saxophonist

Andrew Gross is a Professional Jazz Saxophonist and educator. He performs regularly with the Phoenix Symphony and works freelance with many local Jazz and Contemporary Music groups and ensembles. He has played on numerous recordings including three of his own. Andrew has been a featured soloist on GCU Faculty Recitals and the GCU Thunder Big Band, Mesa Community College Big Band.

Andrew is a devoted instructor. For the last three years he was the Saxophone instructor at GCU, and taught the Saxophone and Clarinet Woodwind Methods. He also developed and directed the saxophone quartet. This year Andrew will be the Director of the Big Thunder Jazz Band.

In addition to his academic role at GCU, Andrew is the Music Director for Young Sounds of Arizona, a youth program, composed of two big bands and a small combo, dedicated to developing not only excellent musicianship but the social skills needed to be successful. His students regularly achieve numerous honors and regularly secure scholarships for college. In addition, Andrew is regularly requested as the clinician by high schools in the valley and as instructor of summer camp programs that feature jazz bands. Andrew maintains a large private teaching studio of saxophone and clarinet students in the Phoenix Area.
